Man sentenced to 3 years for smuggling marijuana

On Sept. 28, it was reported that a California federal court sentenced a 24-year-old man to more than three years in prison for smuggling marijuana into the country. The report stated that the man, who pleaded guilty to a drug charge in January, smuggled more than 11,000 pounds of the drug in from Mexico.

Former USC player detained for drug trafficking

According to the FBI, a former football player for the University of Southern California was detained at a golf course in San Diego on Sept. 10. The 33-year-old is one of the five people who are accused of being involved in a money laundering and drug trafficking ring in Australia.

Man charged for possession of stolen Heisman Trophy

On Sept. 2, a 56-year-old California man was charged after he was accused of being involved in the theft of a Heisman Trophy more than 20 years ago. The report stated that the Heisman Trophy duplicate in question was won by O.J. Simpson and was being displayed at the University of Southern California when it was stolen.

Woman may avoid jail time after pleading guilty to drug offenses

A California woman who was accused of selling numerous drugs from her Palm Springs home was offered a deal by the court on Aug. 27 that would allow her to avoid jail time. The report indicated that the newest charges, which she pleaded guilty to, occurred while she was already out on bail for similar offenses.
