Grand jury indicts 2 on murder, other charges

An unsealed indictment against two California men revealed multiple charges in relation to a Stockton bank robbery in which a female was killed. The men, ages 20 and 21, were each charged with three counts of murder, robbery, kidnapping, gang crimes and carjacking. In addition to the woman, two additional bank robbery suspects were killed.

4 detained in California carjacking

Three California juveniles and one man were taken into custody on Dec. 18 after the four individuals allegedly were involved in a carjacking. According to police, the incident began shortly before 8 p.m. when the four individuals drove up to a Toyota Camry in a Nissan Versa and stole the Toyota at gunpoint.

Overcrowded jails leads to less sentences for DUI offenders

According to reports, the increasingly crowded conditions of California's jail and prison system has led to those convicted of more minor offenses, such as DUI, serving little time as a result. Because the system wants to reserve beds for those charged with more serious crimes such as rape or other felonies, DUI offenders are increasingly receiving more minimal sentences.

California man accused of robbing at least 7 banks

Authorities reported on Dec. 5 that a 27-year-old man suspected to be involved in seven or more bank robberies was taken into custody after allegedly fleeing from Westminster police. Reportedly, the pursuit began at approximately 3:10 p.m., when the 27-year-old man allegedly robbed a Westminster bank and attempted to flee in a taxi that he had already summoned to the bank location.

2 men charged with drug trafficking in California

Two Watsonville men were taken into custody and charged with drug trafficking crimes on Nov. 26. The arrests were the culmination of a month-long investigation by federal and Santa Cruz authorities that turned up more than $40,000 and over a pound of methamphetamine.
