A California man who had 12 previous DUI convictions was found guilty of DUI on April 14 after he was accused of driving a vehicle while under the influence of alcohol. It was reported that the 54-year-old Watsonville man was scheduled to be sentenced May 10 for his latest conviction.

California residents may be aware that the reports of drugged driving have continued to increase. Traffic fatalities resulting from drugged driving have also continued to rise, particularly in Rust Belt states, such as Indiana, Michigan and Ohio. Other increases in drugged driving have occurred in the South and Pacific Northwest. All of these areas have been dealing with an increase in heroin and methamphetamine abuse.

On April 5, it was reported that a California man who was wanted for attempted murder in Detroit is thought to be associated with an attempted drug smuggling case. Prosecutors said that a woman was caught allegedly attempting to bring at least 2.2 pounds of cocaine onto a plane at Los Angeles International Airport. A second man was also believed to be involved.
