California may ease the burden of marijuana convictions

After the passing of Prop 64 in California, it may be possible for those with convictions related to marijuana use to be reduced or eliminated. There have been more than 4,000 people who have petitioned the courts asking for leniency. By offering to reduce or eliminate convictions for marijuana, it may make it easier for individuals to find work or otherwise live a higher quality of life.

Singer charged with drug possession and drunk driving

California country music fans may have become familiar with Michael Ray when his ballad 'Kiss You in the Morning" climbed to the top of the Billboard Country Airplay chart in 2015, but they may not be aware that the 29-year-old singer was taken into custody by police in Florida on drug possession and drunk driving charges during the early morning hours of Dec. 20. His brush with the law began when officers from the Eustis Police Department responded to a minor traffic accident at a fast-food restaurant at approximately 3:00 a.m.

California man facing 7 felony counts after Bay Bridge crash

A box truck driver is facing seven felony counts in connection with an accident that claimed the life of a California Department of Transportation worker. The 32-year-old Foster City resident has been charged with gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated and six counts of felony drunk driving by the Alameda County District Attorney's Office. A 46-year-old toll booth worker was killed when the box truck caused a chain reaction crash on the Interstate 80 approach to the San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge during the early morning hours of Dec. 2.

Los Angeles approves recreational marijuana

On Dec. 6, the Los Angeles City Council voted to allow the sale, cultivation and use of recreational marijuana within city limits. The move makes L.A., which has a population of 4 million people, the largest U.S. city to approve such measures. The new rules are set to take effect on Jan. 1, 2018.
