A California woman who was accused of selling numerous drugs from her Palm Springs home was offered a deal by the court on Aug. 27 that would allow her to avoid jail time. The report indicated that the newest charges, which she pleaded guilty to, occurred while she was already out on bail for similar offenses.
The 25-year-old woman was taken into custody on April 21 after authorities served a search warrant at her home. During the execution of the search warrant, authorities reported seized a number of different drugs, including methadone, Xanax and Lorazapam in addition to evidence of drug sales.
She was facing charges for selling drugs, possession of certain drugs, possession of marijuana for sale and for committing a felony while out on bail, among others. Additionally, she pleaded guilty to multiple other charges stemming from earlier crimes, including shoplifting, petty theft and bringing drugs into jail. In return, she received a suspended sentence of more than 16 years in prison. If she followed the terms of her probation, she would avoid that jail time.
If a person is accused of drug trafficking or other related crimes, a criminal defense attorney may have the ability to negotiate a plea arrangement with the prosecution in order to avoid incarceration. The plea deal may often involve pleading guilty to certain charges, but the severity of any punishments may be significantly reduced. If there is evidence that the drugs did not belong to the defendant, the attorney may seek to have the charges dismissed altogether. In other situations, it could be possible to argue that the search that resulted in the seizure of the drugs was conducted in an impermissible manner.
