Man arrested for drugs after home invasion, car chase

On Jan. 25, California authorities arrested a 26-year-old man for allegedly committing armed robbery, stealing a vehicle, leading police on a car chase and possessing methamphetamine. The incident took place in Humboldt.

According to the Humboldt County Sheriff's Office, on the afternoon of Jan. 24, deputies were on Pine Creek Road in Hoopa when they spotted a vehicle that matched the description of a car stolen in Orleans earlier that day. The deputies called for assistance and continued following the vehicle as it headed west on Bald Hills Road. As the vehicle approached French Camp Road, it crashed into an embankment and two people, a man and a woman, reportedly jumped out and made a break for the woods.

A California Highway Patrol helicopter and multiple K9 teams were brought in to help search for the pair, but they were unsuccessful. However, at around 7:20 a.m. the following day, someone reported a suspicious man walking near a veteran cemetery on the Yurok Tribe Reservation. The man was taken into custody by a member of the Yurok Tribal Police Department at around 9:45 a.m. He was identified as the one driving the stolen vehicle the previous day and allegedly found to be in possession of a firearm and 79 grams of methamphetamine. He was charged with being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm, possession of a controlled substance, possession of a narcotic controlled substance and violation of probation. His female companion has not yet been located.

Individuals charged with drug possession might be able to help their situation by contacting a criminal defense attorney. An attorney may protect a defendant's rights throughout police questioning and work to build a defense against the allegations.
