California sports fans may be interested to learn that Mike Scott, a reserve forward for the Atlanta Hawks, was arrested on drug possession charges on July 30. The 27-year-old signed a three-year deal worth $10 million last year.
Scott was reportedly a passenger in a car driven by his brother when police attempted to pull them over for allegedly tailgating another vehicle on Interstate 85 north of Atlanta. According to sources, Scott’s brother did not immediately stop his car but drove another 2 miles at a high rate of speed before finally pulling over.
Police searched the vehicle and allegedly found more than an ounce of marijuana and 10.9 grams of MDMA, which is also known as Molly. Scott was arrested and charged with possession of a Schedule 1 drug and felony possession of marijuana. His brother is facing additional charges.
The Atlanta Hawks declined to comment on Scott’s arrest, citing that it was an ongoing legal matter. Scott is entering the second year of his contract and is guaranteed $3.3 million this year. He averaged 7.8 points and 2.9 rebounds per game last season. He made 34 percent of his three-point attempts, which was a career high.
