Rams player arrested for alleged DUI

On Sept. 16, California authorities arrested Los Angeles Rams football player Aaron Neary on suspicion of drunk driving. He was taken into custody in Simi Valley.

According to media reports, Neary, who is a center on the Rams' practice team, was spotted driving erratically near Royal Avenue and Sinaloa Road at around 6:27 p.m. Witnesses called 911 to report that they saw a vehicle crash into various objects, including trash cans, mailboxes and a bus stop sign. Neary allegedly kept driving after each collision.

Officers from the Simi Valley Police Department responded to the scene and located the vehicle driving on El Monte Drive near El Lado Drive. They conducted a traffic stop and had Neary, 25, undergo a breathalyzer test. The test allegedly showed that his blood-alcohol content level was .17, which is more than twice the state's legal limit. He was taken into custody and booked into East County jail. He has been charged with suspicion of misdemeanor drunk driving with a blood-alcohol level above .08, property damage and hit and run.

Defendants convicted of drunk driving charges could face a number of serious consequences, including jail time, expensive fines and the loss or restriction of their driving privileges. However, an attorney familiar with DUI cases could represent a defendant in court and work to get the charges dismissed or reduced. In some circumstances, it might be possible to challenge the results of any breath or field sobriety tests that were conducted. This could get the charges thrown out of court. In other cases, the attorney could negotiate a plea deal that allows the defendant to plead guilty to reduced charges.
