California music lovers who have been waiting for rapper Rich Homie Quan’s debut album may be interested to learn that in late May he was taken into custody and charged with drug possession in Georgia. If the rapper is convicted, he could face a maximum of 30 years in prison.
The rapper and his crew were stopped at a police sobriety checkpoint when authorities suspected that they were in possession of drugs and stolen guns. Quan was allegedly found to be in possession of marijuana, though the amount was not reported.
There have been rumors that the rapper used drugs. During a 2014 video shoot, the rapper reportedly passed out. However, he denied that drugs were involved, attributing it instead to exhaustion from a heavy travel schedule. As for his debut album, the rapper hoped to have it released in July.
In 2016, California’s marijuana laws were drastically relaxed after the Adult Use of Marijuana Act was passed. Under this act, those who are 21 and over can legally possess, purchase and consume up to 1 oz. of marijuana in certain locations, such as a private residence. However, California residents can still be accused of violating the state’s marijuana laws if they are believed to be in possession of more than the legal amount or if it is believed that they are selling it without a license. A criminal defense attorney may defend those facing drug possession charges by arguing that the evidence does not support the accusations.
