3 charged in drug trafficking case

On April 5, it was reported that a California man who was wanted for attempted murder in Detroit is thought to be associated with an attempted drug smuggling case. Prosecutors said that a woman was caught allegedly attempting to bring at least 2.2 pounds of cocaine onto a plane at Los Angeles International Airport. A second man was also believed to be involved.

Prosecutors alleged that the two men and the woman were involved in a drug trafficking organization that shipped several types of drugs between Detroit and Los Angeles. The cocaine was seized in early March after authorities found it in the checked bag that belonged to the 28-year-old woman. She was ultimately charged in connection to the case. It was during the investigation into the case that the connection to the two other men was made.

The 45-year-old man who was also accused of attempted murder had reportedly been on the run for the past four years. After he was taken into custody, authorities recovered a receipt from UPS that turned out to be for a shipment of 2.2 pounds of heroin and an ounce of what was expected to be fentanyl.

People charged with drug trafficking could potentially be facing years in prison and other serious legal consequences. A criminal law attorney may assist with creating a defense strategy against the charges. If more than one person was accused of being involved in the drug trafficking case, for example, the attorney may argue that the client was not involved or was being framed by the others in an attempt reduce the severity of their own legal consequences.
