In May 2016, actress Jensen Buchanan, who performed in numerous soap operas, was involved in a car accident. The incident allegedly occurred when the 53-year-old soap star collided with another vehicle as she was driving on the wrong side of the road. California Highway Patrol officials said that although Buchanan sustained minor physical injuries, the 56-year-old male driver she struck in the head-on collision was later administered medical treatment for serious injuries
According to the Santa Barbara Sheriff’s Department, the actress was taken into custody on drunk driving charges after she received light medical attention. At the time of reporting, she was being held with a bail of $100,000, and her charges included two different crimes.
Police said that Buchanan’s black Mercedes came across a pair of solid yellow lines as she was traveling east, but police were still trying to piece together the exact details of what happened. The collision occurred on State Route 154 in the morning hours, and police noted that the only occupants of the vehicles were the two drivers.
Those who have been taken into custody for operating under the influence might have their charges upgraded if they have been involved in motor vehicle accidents where other individuals sustained injuries or died. Those who are convicted and then sentenced to jail or prison may find it extremely difficult to find suitable employment after they are released. It may thus be advisable to consult with a criminal defense attorney who has experience in pursuing options like negotiating plea agreements with prosecutors, diversionary programs and other potential alternatives to spending time incarcerated.
