According to police reports, a 46-year-old Uber driver from Simi Valley was charged with driving drunk after allegedly watching the Super Bowl in a bar. The incident reportedly occurred around 1:45 a.m. when the driver was on the clock and proceeding to pick up passengers.
The Simi Valley Police Department stated that the man was pulled over for not having a license plate on the front of his vehicle and for slowing down at a green light. After pulling the man over, the officer alleges the man said he had watched the Super Bowl at a bar and was then attempting to pick up passengers to make additional money. He reportedly told the officer he had already transported several people prior to that.
Reportedly, the man completed DUI testing and had a blood alcohol concentration in excess of three times the allowable limit of .08 percent. The officer then searched the man’s vehicle, reportedly finding two empty beer cans under the driver’s seat. The man was taken into custody and handed DUI charges. His vehicle was impounded.
Drunk driving charges can lead to serious consequences if a charged person is convicted. Some people may also face collateral consequences, such as losing a job that requires the ability to drive. Those who have been handed such charges may want to meet with an attorney in order to begin constructing an appropriate defense. In some cases, an attorney may choose to challenge the evidence if there was no reasonable suspicion for the stop. Other circumstances may dictate the negotiation of a plea agreement with the prosecution.
