Truck driver faces drug charges after hitting 14 parked cars

Police officers in California took a semi-truck driver into custody at the scene of an accident that occurred on June 20. The 45-year-old man was charged for drug possession and DUI. There were no injuries reported from the accident.

The incident that led to the man’s criminal charges occurred in Brea at around 2 a.m. While driving in a residential area, the Rialto man hit 14 vehicles that were parked along East Birch Street. Police say the impact of the crash caused one of the cars to be pushed into a garage door of a home. According to a spokesperson for the Brea Police Department, there are tractor-trailer restrictions in the area where the man was driving.

Following the crash, the man was detained at the scene and booked for suspected DUI and methamphetamine possession. Authorities shut down a part of East Birch Street for a period of time after the accident. It is unclear whether there were any witnesses to the crash when it happened. Reports did not indicate how much suspected methamphetamine police might have recovered during their investigation.

Depending on the circumstances involved in the incident, a person who is facing DUI charges after a motor vehicle accident may have a number of different defense strategies available to them. For example, a criminal defense attorney might argue that police had no warrant to draw the client’s blood, and thus the evidence that was obtained from the blood sample should be inadmissible. An attorney for a defendant who is also being accused of drug possession could argue that police searched the vehicle without a warrant.
