Suge Knight and Katt Williams charged with robbery

Some California fans of rap may not yet be aware that, on Oct. 29, police detained music producer 'Suge" Knight and comedian 'Katt" Williams on suspicion of stealing a camera from a photographer. While the alleged incident occurred in Beverly Hills, Knight was taken into custody in Las Vegas and Williams was taken into custody from a courthouse in Inglewood.

The alleged incident took place outside of a music studio on Sept. 5, authorities reported. A warrant was purportedly issued for Knight's arrest, though his attorney stated that Knight was unaware of it.

Both men are facing one count of robbery in connection with the incident. Moreover, both men possess records with prior criminal convictions.

Knight has been convicted of assault on multiple occasions in the past. As a result, he could potentially face a maximum sentence of 30 years in prison if convicted on this recent charge. Williams was at the Inglewood courthouse in connection with another criminal charge, for which he was being arraigned, authorities stated. Prosecutors requested that bail be set at $75,000 for Williams and $1 million for Knight.

This high-profile case brings attention to the criminal offense of theft. A theft conviction could potentially cost offenders their freedom as well as a large sum of money in reparations and fines, depending on the value of the property allegedly stolen. Furthermore, if offenders have prior convictions on their record, the penalties accompanying their conviction may be even more severe.

The best option for avoiding these consequences is for accused individuals to marshal together a robust and thorough defense to contest the charges. This means retaining a criminal defense attorney, who may develop and employ various strategies for exposing weaknesses in and casting doubt on the prosecution's case.
