Man charged with DUI in car-house crash

Lancaster police arrested a man and charged him with driving under the influence after he reportedly crashed his vehicle into a house’s living room. The accident happened on Nov. 2 around 1:40 a.m. on 27th Street.

According to police, the 21-year-old man had been driving at high speed prior to the accident when he allegedly crashed into the home. Residents of the home had apparently left the living room just moments prior to the collision. Fortunately, no one was injured in the accident.

Following the crash, the man got out of his vehicle and allegedly attempted to flee from the scene. Neighbors of the homeowner were able to tackle the man, pat him down and hold him until police arrived. Following their arrival, law enforcement arrested the man and charged him with misdemeanor DUI. There was no word on the man’s blood alcohol concentration by Nov. 3. The woman’s home and the involved vehicle both suffered significant property damage in the accident.

Many people are accused of DUI charges every year. When a person is charged with a criminal offense, he or she has several constitutional rights. First, a person has the right against self-incrimination and may choose to remain silent in the face of police questioning. People may also request the representation of an attorney. When an attorney is requested, the police must stop questioning a criminal defendant immediately. People who are charged have a right to a criminal defense against the charges they face. At any trial, a prosecutor must prove the case against those charged beyond a reasonable doubt before the person can be convicted. Since DUI charges can often lead to serious penalties, it is advisable in most cases for people to seek the representation of a criminal defense attorney as soon as possible after being charged.
